My Teaching Method
Many students find my Dutch lessons offer an unexpected way to unwind at the end of a long day. Lessons are flexible, tailored to your skill-level, and designed to get you thinking Speaking in Dutch from day one. What feels like a lively conversation will effectively enhance your Dutch speaking, reading and comprehension skills. Whether you're an expat living in Amsterdam or learning online, You'll build fluency, confidence, and real-life communication skills.
The Assessment
During the first free 30-minute lesson I will ask you questions to get an idea of your current level of Dutch. To help you choose the right Dutch course we will talk about your goals— whether it's to prepare for the inburgering exams, improve your fluency for work, or simply feel confident in daily conversations. You will get an idea of my teaching style and together we can create a customized learning plan.
The curriculum
Most of my students prefer a flexible Dutch learning approach, deciding together which topics to focus on as we progress. However, if you’d like a more structured path, we can follow a textbook or create a plan for inburgering exam preparation.
During each lesson, I take personalized notes that cover new vocabulary, Dutch grammar concepts, and answers to your questions. These notes become your tailored study materials, designed to support your progress toward conversational fluency in Dutch.
To strengthen your skills further, I also offer optional reading and translation assignments based on your personal interests. This method helps build both reading comprehension and writing fluency in Dutch.
Lesson Frequency
The frequency and duration of your Dutch lessons depend on your goals, availability, and learning style. Most students choose one hour per week, but I recommend two hours per week for those who aim to pass the inburgering exams within a very short period time or those aiming to reach a high level of fluency quickly.
Homework
While studying between lessons is encouraged, it’s not required. Following each lesson, I will send you lesson notes and a list of vocabulary you are learning, which it helps to review before our next lesson. If you have additional time, I can also provide optional reading and translation assignments to help improve your Dutch reading and writing skills.
“Lessons are relaxed but expect a challenge.”
He's a great teacher - very knowledgeable and fun to talk to. Lessons usually consist of conversation followed by some exercises or a grammar lesson. He knows the things you need to work on and tailors the lesson to your level. The lessons are relaxed but expect a challenge because he will definitely push you to improve!
